Get ready to discover the bliss that is eating gluten free in Koh Phi Phi. Anyone who knows about this island knows it is like heaven on earth. Stunning mountain backdrops, crystal clear waters, hidden bays and white sands. Enter about 5,000 tourists!
With this however, comes great food that surprisingly I could eat! After the disaster that was trying to find gluten free food in Bangkok, my expectations were low and anxiety high.
Thankfully, it was much easier to eat gluten free here and it put me at ease for our 9 day stay.
You have not had a smoothie bowl until you’ve been to JaJa, seriously. You instantly feel like a supermodel with how healthy they are, whilst being completely scrummy.
I went 4 times during my stay and my favourite was the berries and bee pollen bowl in a small size. How anyone eats a large is beyond me because I basically had to roll home after just a small.
Smoothie ingredients include blueberry, strawberry, banana, date, bee pollen, milk and coconut. This is then topped then with the cafes homemade granola with contains nuts, raisins, coconut and dried fruit. Finished off with half a mango and passion fruit. YUM?!
This cost me 299 baht, which is £7.45. A little expensive for food in Thailand, but as is the gluten free diet.
The staff are divine, so friendly and they recognised me the second time I went and every time after that we had the loveliest chats.
They also do other dishes like eggs on toast, quesadillas and pancakes, but none of these were gluten free.
Three words: gluten free pancakes. This is the place to be! I went 5 times during my stay and completely fell in love with this place.
The quirky interior, friendly staff and buzzing atmosphere makes it an easy place to go on your own or with friends.
There are plenty of pancake toppings to choose between, I tried three different ones and my favourite was the strawberry, blueberry, caramelised banana and honey.
There’s also about 10 pages worth of additional menu to choose from for gluten eaters!
A must for those looking for a gluten free curry! Soy sauce will be your worst enemy in Asia, I promise.
As usual, I asked this little restaurant if they do gluten free. The owner immediately knew what I was talking about and reassured me that all of the curries with rice can be gluten free.
Absolutely amazed, this became a sure favourite. I tried the massaman, green Thai and panang all with tofu and heart shaped rice.
What’s more, this cost just 100 baht for the curry and rice and the portions were huge. A definite win for gluten free food in Koh Phi Phi.
Missing western food? Then this is the place for you. I was recovering from a bout of food poisoning at the start of our stay in Koh Phi Phi. Naturally, all I wanted was a big bowl of pasta. Enter Italiano.
There are about 20+ choices when it comes to gluten free pasta and they are delicious. I went three times, had the carbonara twice and also tried the creamy porcini.
Prices range from between 220 – 300 baht and you definitely get your money’s worth.
