Renowned for his unparalleled passion for seafood, Rick Stein stands as a culinary maestro whose journey has navigated the shores of the foodie world. With an illustrious career spanning decades, Stein’s name has become synonymous with bringing the freshest catch from ocean to plate. His distinctive cooking style, deeply rooted in the coastal influences of Cornwall, has not only elevated British cuisine but also transported food enthusiasts on a delightful gastronomic expedition.
Now though, his empire has expanding into the staycation world. As well as hotel rooms, you can now opt to stay in your own shepherd’s hut. A cosy glamping choice perfect for two people looking for a home from home, shepherd hut holidays provide a rustic yet modern escape immersed in wildlife. The Rick Stein Padstow shepherd’s huts are just that.
Nestled in a meadow behind one of the Rick Stein Padstow restaurants, cosy pub The Cornish Arms, the six shepherd’s huts each have complete privacy with views of nearby nature and wildlife. Walking down your own private stone path, you’ll be greeted by a quaint exterior painted in a warm sage green.
Inside is a charming embodiment of Rick Stein’s passion for both culinary excellence and the idyllic Cornwall landscape. Each hut is adorned with understated maritime accents, radiating an ambiance that emanates relaxation.
The huts are well equipped with perfectly contained kitchenettes that include tea, coffee and snacks, incredibly comfortable double beds and your own ensuite with a walk in shower and fragrant toiletries.
Large windows frame stunning views of the surrounding countryside, connecting you with nature from the comfort of your abode. The huts even come with board games (we had a great time playing Rumikub) as well as binoculars and a bird watching book. A very cottagecore way to relax.
Outside, put your feet back and sit back on the teak loungers with a coffee or glass of wine. While the other huts are nearby, the carefully built stone walls ensure that everyone’s privacy is maintained.
As if the stay couldn’t get any better, you can push yourself to relax that little bit more with a sauna experience down at Harlyn Bay Beach. Just a five minute drive away, this is a blissful slice of indulgence that everyone will love.
Sessions are 50 minutes each and there is plenty of parking in the beach’s car park. Hooks and boxes are provided for belongings, but you’ll need to bring your own towel with you to dry off.
Outside, there is a cold shower which is perfect for cooling off in between your sauna sessions. It is recommended to have sessions no longer than 15 minutes each, but we could only ever make it to 10!
With panoramic views of the turquoise waters and golden sands, it’s an idyllic spot to relax. These sauna boxes are a testament to the perfect fusion of relaxation and nature. Pour a scoop of citrus infused water over the hot coals, and discover the power of a hot sauna.
A quaint pub that is popular with the locals, Rick Stein’s pub The Cornish Arms provides a bustling atmosphere and a delicious array of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tea, coffee, juice and pastries are provided at breakfast, as well as a great choice of dishes from the main menu. We opted for the homemade granola and yoghurt, and the scrambled eggs on toast. Both of these were absolutely divine and I was very pleased to see they had gluten free bread available too!
Dinner was teeming with diners as every single table in the house filled up and staff swiftly turned them over for the next guests, making it essential to book ahead. The dinner menu was extensive with plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options readily available. I had the halloumi burger with a gluten free bun and crispy skin on fries, perfect pub grub.
My friend went off the menu and decided to order one of the wood-fired pizzas, which looked incredible. Although the pizzas weren’t gluten free, it didn’t really matter as there was plenty to choose from on the menu.
Grabbing a glass of wine, playing a game of pool and chatting with locals was a lovely way to unwind. All in all, an idyllic little pub that lives up to Rick Stein’s reputation.
Just a ten minute drive, Padstow welcomes with its coastal charm and quaint streets filled with local treasures. Local shops adorn this picturesque holiday destination, with buskers playing by the water as kids fish for crabs.
Relish in Rick Stein’s seafood offerings, or discover the joys of a Cornish pasty. Don’t forget to indulge in a scoop or two of ice cream and grab some fudge for the road.
In essence, the shepherd’s huts curated by Rick Stein are more than just accommodations; they are a gateway to Cornwall’s coastal soul. These huts encapsulate a unique blend of relaxation and rustic charm.
A stay in these huts not only provides a retreat but also a chance to immerse oneself in the tranquil beauty of Cornwall, a testament to Rick Stein’s dedication to curating experiences that harmonise comfort, culture, and the allure of the sea.
